Home Heating and Cooling

The Heart of Your Home

Heating and cooling generates almost half of a home’s greenhouse gas emissions, so it is the largest opportunity for reducing CO2, and saving big money over time.

If you haven’t already done so, we recommend these four steps to all homeowners:

  1. Get an energy audit, through CMLP or MassSave.  This will determine the necessary further steps.
  2. Weatherize your home.  This is filling in the gaps and adding insulation to minimize heat loss.
  3. Install programmable thermostats, an easy and inexpensive way to save a sizable fraction off your heating bills.
  4. When the time is right, upgrade your heating system with an air-source heat pump or a highly efficient boiler or furnace.
