DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Dr. William Moomaw will discuss the irreplaceable value of mature trees and the threat posed by the proposed private jet hangar expansion at Hanscom Field. Dr. Moomaw was a lead author for five IPCC reports\, including one that received the Nobel Peace Prize. \nAbout the speaker: Dr. Moomaw has been a lead author of five major Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports. As a Science Fellow\, he worked in the U.S. Senate on energy and forestry legislation and on legislation that eliminated American use of CFCs in spray cans to protect the ozone layer. He was the first director of the climate program at the World Resources Institute in 1988 He has been elected an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow. Dr. Moomaw was also founding director of the Tufts Institute of the Environment\, Tufts Climate Initiative\, and co-founder of the Global Development and Environment Institute.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Walden Woods Project for a special preview of the film\, “Henry David Thoreau” with Don Henley\, historian Douglas Brinkley\, the filmmakers Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewers\, and Thoreau scholar/author Kristin Case! \nThe evening will feature approximately 40 minutes of clips from the upcoming film\, as well as a discussion with panelists Don Henley\, historian Douglas Brinkley\, the filmmakers Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewers\, and Thoreau scholar/author Kristin Case. The panel will be moderated by Lois Brown Ph.D.\, Foundation Professor of Literature and Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Arizona State University. \n“HENRY DAVID THOREAU”\, a three-hour documentary\, will premiere on PBS stations on March 30\, 2026 (episodes 1 and 2)\, and March 31\, 2026 (episode 3). Directed by Chris and Erik Ewers of Ewers Brothers Productions\, and executive produced by Ken Burns and Don Henley\, the film features narration by George Clooney\, and the voices of Jeff Goldblum as Thoreau\, Ted Danson as Ralph Waldo Emerson\, Meryl Streep as several contemporaries of Thoreau\, and Tate Donovan as Ellery Channing.
