SUMMARY:West Concord Family Bike Fest at Bradford Mill
DESCRIPTION:May is National Bike Month! As part of Safe Routes to School\, celebrate spring and sustainability during the West Concord Bike Festival at Bradford Mill (43 Bradford St\, the back parking lot). \nGrab your helmets and water bottles\, and pedal on over! There will be fun for all ages and abilities\, whether you are using a balance bike\, just learning to pedal\, want to check out an e-bike\, or are interested in learning more about accessible biking options. We’ll have bike safety courses and tips\, bike checks\, bike decorating\, and more! Get ready for Safe Routes to School’s Bike to School events in early May.  \nWe will have skill-building workshops beginning at 1 pm and 2 pm for children of all skill levels. You can plan your visit around one of these workshops\, but there will also be drop-in activities. \nWhat to bring: \n\nYour bikes\, including balance and pedal bikes if you have them! (There will be bikes to borrow!)\nYour helmets \nYour water bottles\n\nAll are welcome to join. Register on the library’s event calendar (cfpl.info/bikefestival) to receive weather-related updates. SUMMARY:Climate Risk Assessment and Adaption Planning
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Paul Kirshen will talk about the theory of climate risk assessment and adaptation planning and then talk about some of the likely threats facing Concord and the Boston area in terms of environmental\, social\, and built systems in our region.\n\nDr. Kirshen is a Professor of Climate Adaptation in the School for the Environment at University of Massachusetts Boston and Research Director of the Stone Living Lab. He has more than 40 years of research experience related to water resources and coastal zone management and climate variability and change. Since 1990\, he has been a consultant to the City of Boston on the integrated vulnerability of the city to present and future climates and adaptation/management strategies. He also serves on the Climate Action Committee for the Town of Concord. \nEvent hosted by ConcordCAN – the Concord Climate Action Network – and the First Parish Environmental Team.
