SUMMARY:Private Jets and Greenhouse Emissions
DESCRIPTION:The proposed expansion of private jet hanger space at Hanscom Field has generated controversy. This talk will discuss: greenhouse emissions for private vs. commercial jet travel\, economic equity issues\, how impacts of aviation projects are assessed\, role of the Environment Impact Review\, potential of sustainable aviation fuel (biofuel)\, and arguments used to justify and oppose such projects. \nThe speaker\, Jim Poage\, had a long career with the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. Jim has expanded his system view of problems to include integrating all the success factors involving technology\, employees\, customers\, suppliers\, organizational structure and culture\, processes\, and external influences. \nHosted by the Concord Area Humanists

SUMMARY:Embodied Carbon
DESCRIPTION:What do you know about embodied\, upfront\, or operational carbon?  Why is this topic fundamental to the issues of climate change? \n\n \n\nFind out on June 12th at 7:00pm when the Lincoln CFREE committee will be hosting a Zoom event with Tim Lock\, a renowned architect and expert on the issues of emissions and carbon that impact us all. \n\n \n\nThe issues relating to carbon are some of the most fundamental to the discussion of climate change and what we can do to reduce our impact going forward. \n\n \n\nTim is the Managing Partner of OPAL Architects\, a Maine based firm that focuses on sustainable design and high performance homes.  Tim has also advised the White House on climate policy and the impacts of carbon on the planet. \n\n\nTo register for this Zoom presentation\, go to the following link. https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEqdO2uqDkiGdMu2fGzP_BoACXrdgIn6eWI \n\n \n\nWe plan on recording this presentation. SUMMARY:Environmental Campaigning - Taking Action Now
DESCRIPTION:As we see more and more effects from climate change in the form of severe flooding\, intense storms\, and raging wild fires\, it has been increasingly imperative that we have a government leadership that will act to sustain a livable planet. Given the enormous stakes in the November election at all levels of government\, we must elect environmentally-oriented candidates and prevent a climate-change denying government from dismantling regulatory agencies and allowing fossil fuel companies to drill where they want\, when they want.  \nGetting involved is essential; we are a powerful force when we all take action. ConcordCAN has invited multiple speakers who will talk about what we can do to help to get out the vote and elect candidates who support environmental issues. If you are a long-time activist\, you will learn about new organizations and tactics. If you are a newcomer to campaign volunteering\, you will learn how easy and useful it can be to get involved. \nSpecific organizations include: \n\nEnvironmental Voter Project\nCitizens Climate Lobby\nElders Climate Action\nConcord Indivisible\nVolunteerBlue
